DVA-C02

Direct answer: DOP-C02 is the AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional exam. It is commonly described as 75 questions in 180 minutes with a scaled passing score of 750 out of 1000, across six weighted domains led by SDLC automation. Most people with real AWS experience plan about eight weeks at 8 to 10 hours a week.
The DOP-C02 exam is the AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional test. It checks whether you can automate delivery, manage infrastructure as code, monitor systems and respond to incidents on AWS. Plan on about eight weeks of study at 8 to 10 hours a week if you already work with AWS.
The certification shows you can design and run continuous delivery and operations on AWS at a professional level. It is about choosing the right service and failure-handling pattern, not about memorizing console screens.
It fits DevOps engineers, platform engineers, site reliability engineers and senior developers who run pipelines and production workloads. AWS recommends hands-on experience provisioning and operating AWS environments. Associate-level certifications are not formally required, but they build useful habits. If you are earlier in your path, our DVA-C02 exam guide is a sensible first step.
The exam is commonly described with this format:
Item | Detail |
|---|---|
Questions | 75 |
Duration | 180 minutes |
Question types | Multiple choice and multiple response |
Passing score | 750 on a scale of 100 to 1000 |
Delivery | Test center or online proctored |
Exam details can change, so confirm the current figures on the official AWS Certification page before you book.
The six domains and their weights:
Domain | Weight |
|---|---|
1. SDLC automation | 22% |
2. Configuration management and infrastructure as code | 17% |
3. Resilient cloud solutions | 15% |
4. Monitoring and logging | 15% |
5. Incident and event response | 14% |
6. Security and compliance | 17% |
Domain 1 is the largest, but no domain is small. Domains 2 and 6 together make up more than a third of the exam, so skipping security or CloudFormation is risky.
Expect long scenario questions. Each usually describes a company, a constraint (lowest operational effort, no downtime, least privilege) and four plausible answers. The constraint decides the answer.
AWS lists the exam at $300 USD on its certification site. Our DOP-C02 voucher is $279.99. Prices change, so check the current AWS list price at aws.amazon.com/certification when you buy.
Here is how ordering works with us:
The voucher code is emailed within 12 hours of payment and also shown in your account.
You can cancel an order for a full refund before delivery.
A delivered code is non-refundable unless the test provider rejects it as invalid, already used or expired on first use.
In that case, contact support within 14 days with your order number and a screenshot. The code is then replaced or refunded.
Full terms are on our refund policy and delivery policy pages. You can see the product here: DOP-C02 voucher.
This plan assumes 8 to 10 hours a week and some AWS experience. Add two weeks if you have not used CodePipeline or CloudFormation at work.
Week | Focus | Hours |
|---|---|---|
1 | Read the official exam guide. Take a baseline practice test. Set up a sandbox account with a budget alert. | 8 |
2 | Source stages (for example a GitHub connection), CodeBuild, CodePipeline, artifact handling, | 9 |
3 | CodeDeploy strategies for EC2, ECS and Lambda. Rollbacks and alarms. | 10 |
4 | CloudFormation: change sets, drift, StackSets, | 10 |
5 | Resilience: Auto Scaling, multi-AZ and multi-Region patterns, Route 53 routing, backups | 9 |
6 | CloudWatch metrics, logs and alarms, X-Ray, EventBridge, Systems Manager | 9 |
7 | Incident response, Config rules, GuardDuty, Security Hub, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager | 10 |
8 | Two timed practice exams. Review every wrong answer. Light revision only in the last two days. | 10 |
Build something each week. A small pipeline that deploys a container or Lambda function teaches more than hours of video.
Here is a typical scenario. A team deploys a Lambda function. They want 10% of traffic on the new version for 5 minutes. If a CloudWatch alarm fires, the release must roll back with no human action.
Work through it in three steps:
Name the constraint: automatic rollback and gradual traffic shift.
Match the service: CodeDeploy with a Lambda canary configuration and alarms attached to the deployment group.
Reject the distractors: manual alias changes lack automatic rollback, and a pipeline approval step does not watch alarms.
You can practice this exact pattern in a sandbox:
aws deploy create-deployment \
--application-name demo \
--deployment-group-name prod \
--deployment-config-name CodeDeployDefault.LambdaCanary10Percent5Minutes \
--revision file://revision.json
aws cloudformation detect-stack-drift --stack-name demoThe rollback only happens if the deployment group has automatic rollback on alarm enabled and the CloudWatch alarm attached. Also, revision.json must contain the AppSpec content for the Lambda function, or the deployment will not start.
Run the first command with a failing alarm to watch the rollback happen. Run the second after editing a resource by hand to see how drift appears.
Studying only domain 1. Pipelines matter, but security, monitoring and incident response are a large share of the score.
Skipping hands-on labs. Reading about CodeDeployDefault configurations is not the same as seeing a rollback.
Ignoring the constraint in the question. Several answers may work. Only one meets "least operational overhead" or "minimum downtime".
Choosing custom code over managed services. Professional-level answers often prefer EventBridge, Systems Manager or Config over scripts you maintain.
Running out of time. 180 minutes for 75 questions is about 2.4 minutes each. Flag long questions and return to them.
Memorizing practice questions. Question banks are for finding weak areas, not for learning answers.

AWS certifications are commonly valid for three years. To renew, you usually take the current version of the exam again before the date shown in your AWS Certification account.
Use the time before then to add depth. Many DOP-C02 holders move on to a security or specialty certification, or to Kubernetes and Terraform skills that sit beside AWS tooling. Add the badge to your profile, and write down one pipeline or incident you improved during your study. Hiring managers respond better to a concrete result than to a badge alone.
No, AWS does not make an Associate certification a formal prerequisite. Still, the Developer or SysOps material covers services the Professional exam assumes you know. If you are short on AWS experience, start there.
Yes, for most people. The questions are longer, the scenarios have several valid-looking answers, and you must weigh cost, risk and operational effort. The extra difficulty comes from reading and judgment more than from new services.
Yes, but AWS applies a waiting period before a retake and requires a new exam fee. Check the current retake rules on the AWS Certification site before you plan your next date.
CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, EventBridge, Systems Manager, IAM and Auto Scaling appear throughout the domains. Learn how they connect, such as an alarm triggering a rollback, rather than each one alone.
Both are commonly offered. A test center suits you if your home network or space is unreliable. Online proctoring is convenient but has strict room and ID rules, so run the system check well before exam day.
