AIF-C01

Direct answer: CLF-C02 is aimed at candidates with up to 6 months of AWS exposure, independent of a specific job role. It has 50 scored questions plus 15 unscored ones, and you need a scaled score of 700 out of 1,000 to pass. Most beginners can prepare in four to six weeks at 5 to 8 hours a week, and our voucher costs $36.99.
The AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) exam checks that you understand the AWS Cloud at a broad level. You pass with a scaled score of 700 on a 100–1,000 scale. It is not tied to a job role, so it suits beginners, managers, sales staff and career changers.
This guide uses the official AWS exam guide for every exam fact. The study plan and tips are our own suggestions.
AWS says the exam is for people who can show overall knowledge of the AWS Cloud, independent of a specific job role. It also validates that you can:
Explain the value of the AWS Cloud.
Understand and explain the AWS shared responsibility model.
Understand the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
Understand security best practices.
Understand AWS Cloud costs, economics, and billing practices.
Describe and position core AWS services, including compute, network, database, and storage.
Identify AWS services for common use cases.
The target candidate has up to 6 months of exposure to AWS Cloud design, implementation, or operations. You might be starting a cloud career, or you might work alongside people in cloud roles.
AWS also lists what you are not expected to do: coding, designing cloud architecture, troubleshooting, implementation, and load and performance testing. That is good news if you are not an engineer. You need to recognize services and concepts, not build with them.
Item | What AWS states |
|---|---|
Scored questions | 50 |
Unscored questions | 15, not identified on the exam |
Question types | Multiple choice (one correct, three distractors); multiple response (two or more correct out of five or more options) |
Result | Pass or fail |
Score scale | 100–1,000 scaled score |
Minimum passing score | 700 |
Unanswered questions | Scored as incorrect |
Guessing penalty | None |
Scoring model | Compensatory |
So you see 65 questions, but only 50 count. You cannot tell which are unscored, so treat every question as real.
Compensatory scoring means you do not need to pass each section. You only need to pass overall. A weak area can be offset by a strong one.
There is no penalty for guessing, so never leave a question blank. Eliminate the distractors you know are wrong, then pick the best remaining answer.
Check the current list price, exam length and available languages on the AWS Certification site before you book, since they are not confirmed in the exam guide.
The exam has four content domains. Each weight is a share of scored content.
Domain | Weight | Roughly how many of the 50 scored questions |
|---|---|---|
1. Cloud Concepts | 24% | about 12 |
2. Security and Compliance | 30% | about 15 |
3. Cloud Technology and Services | 34% | about 17 |
4. Billing, Pricing, and Support | 12% | about 6 |
The question counts are our own arithmetic (weight × 50), so treat them as estimates.
Say you are strong on services but weak on billing. Domain 4 is only about 6 questions. Missing half of them costs you about 3 questions.
Now say you are shaky on security. Domain 2 is about 15 questions. Missing half costs you about 7 or 8. That is a much bigger hole.
The lesson: Domains 2 and 3 together make up 64% of the exam. Spend most of your hours there. Do not skip Domain 4, though. It is small and usually the quickest to learn.
AWS also publishes lists of in-scope and out-of-scope services, plus a technologies and concepts page, on the same exam guide site. Use the in-scope list as your service checklist.
Our CLF-C02 voucher is $36.99 (USD) as listed on 2026-11-02. You can see the listing here.
The terms, as written in our store policy:
The voucher code is emailed within 12 hours of payment. It also appears in your account.
You can cancel an order for a full refund before delivery.
A delivered code is non-refundable. The exception is when the test provider rejects it as invalid, already used or expired on first use.
In that case, contact support within 14 days with your order number and a screenshot. We replace or refund the code.
Full details are on our refund policy and delivery policy pages. Redeem the code promptly. If the test provider rejects it, contact support within 14 days with your order number and a screenshot.
Pick the row that matches your background. These hours are our suggestion, not an AWS figure.
Your background | Weeks | Hours per week | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
New to IT and cloud | 6 | 5–6 | 30–36 |
Some IT experience | 4 | 6–8 | 24–32 |
Already work with AWS | 2 | 6–8 | 12–16 |
Here is a four-week version.
Week 1: Cloud concepts (Domain 1). Learn the value of the AWS Cloud and the Well-Architected Framework. Write one sentence for each idea in your own words.
Week 2: Security and compliance (Domain 2). Master the shared responsibility model first. Then cover security best practices and who owns what.
Week 3: Technology and services (Domain 3). Go through the in-scope services list. For each one, write what it does and one use case. Group them as compute, network, database and storage.
Week 4: Billing and support (Domain 4), then review. Spend two sessions on costs, economics and billing. Use the rest for timed practice sets and a review of every wrong answer.
On any practice set, log why you missed a question. Was it a knowledge gap, a misread question or a rushed guess? The pattern shows you where to spend your last hours.
Coding is out of scope, but a little hands-on time makes services easier to remember. Install the AWS CLI and run a few read-only commands in a personal account.
aws configure
aws sts get-caller-identity
aws s3 lsaws sts get-caller-identity shows which account and identity you are using. That makes the idea of an identity and its permissions concrete. Open the billing console too, and find where costs are reported. Set a budget alert so you see how cost controls work.
Delete anything you create when you finish, so you do not leave resources running.
Skipping Domains 1 and 4. Together they still carry 36% of scored content. Spend most hours on Domains 2 and 3, but give the other two a full week of attention.
Memorizing answers. Distractors are plausible and match the content area. You need to understand why an option is right.
Ignoring multiple-response questions. These have two or more correct answers out of five or more options, so check the question type before answering.
Leaving blanks. Unanswered questions score as incorrect, and guessing costs nothing.
Over-reading section feedback. AWS says to use caution with section-level feedback in your score report.
Using leaked question sets. Brain dumps break exam rules and teach pattern matching, not understanding. Use official material and honest practice tests.
Your result is a pass or fail designation, along with your scaled score. Use the certification to support a first cloud role or a move within your team.
The next step depends on your goal. Developers can look at the DVA-C02 exam guide. You can also browse our entry-level and fundamentals certifications.
When you are ready to book, get the CLF-C02 voucher and start your four weeks.
It is aimed at people with up to 6 months of AWS exposure, independent of a specific job role. Beginners often find the volume of new terms harder than the questions themselves. A steady 5 to 6 hours a week for about six weeks is a realistic plan.
No. AWS lists coding, designing cloud architecture, troubleshooting, implementation, and load and performance testing as out of scope for the target candidate. You need to recognize services, concepts and billing ideas.
No. Dumps often break exam rules, can be wrong or outdated, and teach you to match patterns instead of understand services. Official AWS material, your own notes and honest practice tests are safer and prepare you better.
If the test provider rejects it as invalid, already used or expired on first use, contact support within 14 days. Send your order number and a screenshot. We then replace or refund the code.
Start with Cloud Concepts. Understanding the value of the AWS Cloud and the Well-Architected Framework gives you a base for the other domains. Then give the most time to Security and Compliance and Cloud Technology and Services, which together carry 64% of scored content.
